BJ Baartmans ‘Ghostwriter’

Een kleine 25 jaar na de release van zijn eerste solo album The Pawnshop Guitar Chase treedt songschrijver/gitarist/producer BJ Baartmans volop voor het voetlicht met GHOSTWRITER: 13 liedjes waaraan toegankelijke en herkenbare maar tegelijkertijd heel persoonlijke verhalen, observaties en opvattingen ten grondslag liggen. Ze overbruggen een inmiddels meer dan veertig jaar lange reis in de muziek met 14 albums op eigen titel, honderden albumsessies en een slordige 4000 optredens op zak. En tegelijkertijd een roerig gezinsleven, gepaard gaand met ingrijpende, levensbepalende gebeurtenissen. Het vinden maar ook verliezen van levenslange vrienden. Het najagen van mooie dromen en het vinden van kleine schatten.
“A ghostwriter’s always got someone to blame” is een regel uit één van de songs op het nieuwe album. Verhalen kunnen zichzef aandienen maar daarmee hebben ze nog niet zomaar een verbinding met de luisteraar. En die moet ze zich wel eigen kunnen maken. Daar zit een schrijver tussen. Een schrijver kan zich best verschuilen achter zijn personages. Maar tegelijkertijd ook weer niet. Het moeten toch “echte” karakters zijn. 

Met een aanvulling uit eerder Engelstalig repertoire, anekdotes en wat instrumentale gitaaruitstapjes.

Op GHOSTWRITER hoor je mix van Americana, Pubrock en Folk. Maar in essentie is het een Rock & Roll album, ook waar het zachtjes verleidt of langzaam meandert.
